In Conversation: Tracey Emin & Dr Peter Meades
Strangeland: 20 Years On
29 October 2025 | 7–9pm
TKE Studios, Margate
To mark the 20th anniversary of Strangeland, Tracey Emin’s uncompromising and deeply personal memoir, join us for an intimate conversation between the artist and Dr Peter Meades, London-based psychotherapist and author of the forthcoming I’m Fine (But Not Really).
First published in 2005, Strangeland traces Emin’s life through the Margate of her childhood, the Turkey of her forefathers, and the chaotic brilliance of her early career in London. Honest, shocking, and profoundly romantic, it remains one of the most searingly original memoirs of the past two decades.
The 20th anniversary edition, published by Hodder & Stoughton, features a new introduction from Emin, reflecting on the book’s enduring resonance, and the ways in which memory, trauma, and creativity shape a life.
Dr Meades brings to the conversation over 25 years’ experience as a psychotherapist and service leader in the NHS, now working in private practice. His insights into the intersections of psychotherapy, art, and culture will open up a dialogue with Tracey about the vulnerabilities, contradictions, and survival strategies that underpin both Strangeland and her approach to art.
This special event offers a rare opportunity to hear Tracey Emin discuss her life and work with candour and humour, in her hometown of Margate.
