Professional Conduct

  • At TKE Studios, maintaining a respectful and collaborative atmosphere is essential to ensuring that all artists can thrive. The following guidelines are designed to help foster a harmonious environment for everyone:

    • Respect for Peers: Be mindful of your fellow artists. Everyone’s creative process is unique, so respect each other’s space, time, and boundaries. Avoid interrupting others when they are working unless it’s absolutely necessary.

    • Shared Spaces and Resources: Common areas and resources are for everyone’s use. Clean up after yourself and ensure that tools, equipment, and communal supplies are returned to their proper places after use. If something is damaged or depleted, notify Alex, the studio manager, promptly.

    • Noise Levels: Keep noise to a reasonable level to maintain a productive and focused atmosphere. If you need to use tools or equipment that generate significant noise, try to schedule these activities during hours when they will least disrupt others. Be considerate when playing music—use headphones whenever possible or check with those nearby before playing it aloud.

    • Studio Cleanliness: Keep your workspace tidy and organised to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for everyone. Dispose of waste properly and follow any recycling guidelines in place. Don’t leave food out; we don’t want mice.

    • Trash Talk: TKE Studios is a space dedicated to artistic growth, not division. Gossiping, spreading rumours, or engaging in negative talk about peers or staff can create an unnecessarily toxic environment.

Conflict Resolution: Should conflicts arise, address them respectfully and constructively. If needed, contact Elissa or Alex for support in resolving issues.

  • TKE Studios is committed to an inclusive environment for everyone. We celebrate diversity in all its forms and do not tolerate any form of discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age, or any other characteristic. All members of our community are expected to treat one another with respect, kindness, and fairness. If you experience or witness any behavior that goes against these values, please report it to Alex or Elissa immediately so appropriate action can be taken.

  • Should you encounter any issues or disputes, Elissa and Alex are your contacts for conflict resolution. They are here to listen, mediate, and work with all parties involved to reach a fair and respectful solution. Whether it’s a misunderstanding, a disagreement, or a more complex issue, don’t hesitate to approach them in confidence. Our goal is to resolve conflicts quickly and constructively.

  • We do not allow guests to visit studios, this is out of respect for others sharing this studio space.

You will be able to invite partners etc to our internal events.

Professional visits to the studio - you should not arrange any studio visits from professionals such as galleries, collectors, curators without prior approval from Elissa

  • TKE Studios is home to a wealth of talented individuals, many of whom possess skills and knowledge you might not yet know about. We’re keen to foster a culture of sharing and learning from one another, so if you’re looking for advice or collaboration in a specific area, don’t hesitate to ask in the WhatsApp group.

By connecting with fellow residents, visiting artists, and local creatives, you can build lasting relationships that extend beyond their time at the studio.

Being part of TKE also means being part of the vibrant Margate arts community. We encourage you to get out there and get involved—Margate is brimming with galleries, studios, and creative spaces to explore. TKE Studios artists Lindsey and Guy run Quench Gallery in town, and Alex, our studio manager, is actively involved with Margate Pride. There’s always something happening in Margate, so make the most of it.

  • You are expected to attend and take part in all trips. For group trips, we will pay for a group ticket train fair.

  • Tracey is an extremely busy person who generously gives her time to this programme.

Please respect her time and if she asks you to do something, you should attempt to do it.

Every discussion with Tracey should be deemed as a tutorial

Please do not contact Tracey directly. Always ask Elissa your questions first, if she doesn't know the answer she can find out for you.

Resources & Facilities

  • Our shared library operates on an honesty policy, reflecting our trust in everyone to respect and care for the books. Feel free to borrow books as needed, but please return them once you're done so others can enjoy them too. We kindly ask that books remain within the building to ensure they’re accessible to everyone. We are working on creating a catalogue for easy access to titles.

  • We’ve made it easy for you to handle basic printing and scanning within the building. A Canon G4010 printer-scanner is available for use and can be found on the network. The device is located in Alex's office, so please ensure you are mindful of her workspace when accessing it.

The Wi-Fi network is called "Foundation," and the password is "TreeSpeakerApple,".

  • The repository, located in the undercroft, is a shared resource designed to foster reuse. This is the place to leave unwanted items that might be useful to others and to pick up anything you find inspiring or practical. Please keep it tidy and avoid leaving items that are clearly unusable, such as empty paint tubes or rubbish you’d prefer not to dispose of yourself.

Policies on Artwork

  • Your creative work remains entirely your own. You retain full ownership and intellectual property rights to anything you create during your time here. We value and respect your artistic autonomy and understand the importance of protecting your ideas and creations. If you choose to showcase or collaborate on projects within TKE, you are encouraged to clearly document agreements with collaborators to ensure mutual understanding of rights and responsibilities. If you have questions or need guidance on intellectual property matters, please reach out to Elissa or Alex for support or recommendations.

  • For any show held at TKE Studios, a 10% commission will be taken from sales of exhibited work or ticket sales from performances. This fee is significantly lower than traditional gallery rates and is designed to support our charity foundation. By contributing this small percentage, you’re directly supporting the growth and sustainability of TKE Studios and TEAR

Selling from your studio - if the sale stems from any external visitors organised by the Foundation or the work has been viewed in your studio, we expect you to contribute 10% of the sale to support the TEAR programme.

We would like you to disclose any approaches to the artists by external people who wish to buy artwork - please inform Elissa of any approaches.

  • Please inform Elissa of any approaches made by a gallery for representation.

You should not agree to any offers whilst on the TEAR programme - but please discuss as each case will be unique.

    PREVIOUS REPRESENTATION:

Any gallery representation disclosed at interview will be respected. You should make it clear to your gallery that TEAR does not have any monetary interests. However, we ask for your gallery to respect the TEAR programme as a time of growth for you as an artist and as such work created at TEAR should not be taken by your gallery.

  • You must keep all your work you produce here at the studios. This is because we may need to refer to it at any point.

Date all your life drawings and sign - keep in on your shelf

We will designate storage areas when the need arises.

Financial Information

  • As a recipient of a funded programme ( TEAR) you will unlikely be eligible for funding from external sources.

It is essential that you discuss any intentions to apply for further funding as each situation is likely to be unique and it should not undermine TEAR itself. - Please contact Elissa for clarity.
